During the lecture, Kyrylo Lipatov will discuss:
● The concept of "oppositional art" in Odesa during the 1960s-1980s and its relevance today;● Whether all artists of that era were truly part of the Odesa underground;● The notions of official and unofficial art, delineating the historical boundaries of each;● An external perspective on the Soviet system.
Kyrylo Lipatov is a historian and researcher, and the former head of the research department at the Odesa Museum of Fine Arts. In recent years, he has curated significant art projects. Since the onset of the large-scale war, Lipatov has been actively volunteering and working to safeguard cultural heritage sites. One of his current research focuses is the decolonization of memory sites and the rethinking of local urban identities, particularly in his native Odesa.
The exhibition "Three Hours: Unofficial Art of Odesa in the Second Half of the 20th Century" runs until April 14, 2024, and is open for viewing every Saturday from 15:00 to 19:00 and every Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00.
