The Kryvyi Rih Cultural Centre / KRCC, in partnership with PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih," invites you to the discussion “The Future of Industrial Cities: Culture and Decolonization” as part of the Language Exercises exhibition.
This event will explore the cultural development of industrial cities and regions through the lens of decolonization processes. We will discuss how historical heritage and industrial context shape contemporary cultural identity, and how art, cultural initiatives, and civic engagement can contribute to the restoration and renewal of cultural landscapes.
Speakers:
● Oleksandra Claude — an interdisciplinary artist whose work delves into the concepts of roots, language, and belonging as factors in identity formation, exploring the impact of industrial heritage on ecological crises.● Anton Lyagusha — a leading expert in public history in Ukraine, PhD in History, Academic Director of the MA program Memory Studies and Public History at the Kyiv School of Economics, and a researcher with The New University in Exile Consortium (New York).● Anna Litvinchuk — Head of Tourism Development at the Kryvyi Rih City Development Institute.

This event is part of the Language Exercises exhibition, highlighting issues of linguistic identity, decolonization, and the significance of the Ukrainian language in daily life, emphasizing our distinctiveness from the neighboring aggressor. Admission is free with registration. The exhibition features works by Ukrainian artists who reinterpret the colonial experience of the Ukrainian nation, including Valeriy Veduta, Alevtina Kakhidze, Bohdana Kosmina, and Olya Fedorova.
The project runs until September 1 and is open for viewing every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00 at the Palace of Culture of Metallurgists, 7 Metalurhiv Avenue, Kryvyi Rih.
