"How to Transform in Times of Crisis: Odesa Museum of Contemporary Art"

Illustration

When: August 6, 18:30Where: Online

The focus of the lecture will be the experience of the Odesa Museum of Contemporary Art (OMCA), which, despite the challenges of war, loss of its permanent physical location, and constant obstacles, continues to be a vibrant, mobile, and active player on the cultural map. OMCA is a space for communities, dialogue, and resistance, transforming into a flexible platform through anti-hierarchical curatorial practices, hybrid work formats (residencies, festivals, temporary exhibition spaces), and partnerships with European institutions. The museum has managed to stay close to people even in times of division.
Andriy Siguntsov is an artist, curator, and art director working at the intersection of visual arts, music, and curatorial practices. Since 2020, he has led the curatorial activities of the Odesa Museum of Contemporary Art. In his work, Siguntsov advocates for horizontal models of interaction, focuses on the local context, and experiments with formats that blur the boundaries between the institution, art, and life. In addition to projects in Ukraine, he has implemented initiatives in Paris, Rome, Berlin, and New York, consistently demonstrating that culture is a tool for dialogue, therapy, and societal consolidation.
The lecture will be of interest to:
● Museum professionals, curators, and cultural managers● Cultural researchers and sociologists● Anyone working with communities and public spaces● Those seeking answers to the question: how to remain visible, significant, and necessary in a crisis context?
