Kryvyi Rih Cultural Centre / KRCC invites you to the presentation of the book "Reclaiming History. Decoloniality and Art in Ukraine after 1991" by the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform, held as part of the project "Reimagining the Museum."
Over the past two years, the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform has focused on critically rethinking contemporary Ukrainian art through a decolonial lens. The researchers have explored how the Western gaze shapes perceptions of Ukrainian art, and how we ourselves interpret our own history, identity, and cultural heritage.
This presentation is part of the "Reimagining the Museum" project, initiated by cultural manager Sviatoslav Mykhailov. The project aims to critically re-examine the exhibitions of the Kryvyi Rih Historical Museum, challenge imperial narratives, and offer new, inclusive interpretations of local history.
Speakers:
Yevheniia Butsykina — Associate Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, art critic, and member of the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform.
Milena Khomchenko — Art critic, curator, co-founder of the SONIAKH platform, and member of the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform.
The discussion will be moderated by cultural manager and curator of the "Reimagining the Museum" project, Sviatoslav Mykhailov.
The event will present the book "Reclaiming History. Decoloniality and Art in Ukraine after 1991", which includes essays by Kateryna Botanova, researchers Yevheniia Butsykina and Milena Khomchenko, as well as scholars Svitlana Biedarieva, Adrian Ivakhiv, and Madina Tlostanova. The publication offers an analytical reflection on the processes of decolonization in Ukrainian culture after independence.
The editor and compiler of the anthology is Kateryna Botanova, guest curator of the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform.
This book presentation is organized in partnership with PinchukArtCentre.
The institutional partner of the "Reimagining the Museum" project is the Kryvyi Rih Cultural Centre / KRCC.
The project is supported by the European Union through the House of Europe programme.
