Date: 30 July, 16:00
Venue:
Poshtova Library (40 Poshtovyi Avenue, Kryvyi Rih)

The lecture will be delivered by Olena Onohda — cultural manager, archaeologist, museum professional, and PhD in History. She currently manages grant programmes supporting international cultural cooperation and cultural infrastructure development at House of Europe.
Before joining the field of international cultural cooperation, Olena dedicated many years to archaeology. Between 2005 and 2009, she participated in the large-scale rescue archaeological excavations carried out on the site of the present-day Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv. These excavations became one of the key milestones in reinterpreting the history of this unique heritage site and laid the foundation for its future museum interpretation. Later, Olena joined the Mystetskyi Arsenal team, where she worked in the museum department, contributing directly to the interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage.
During the lecture, participants will learn:
● how contemporary archaeological research is conducted in urban environments;● why rescue archaeology is essential for preserving cultural heritage;● how archaeological discoveries are transformed into museum exhibitions;● how contemporary museums engage with memory, history, and multiple interpretations of the past;● how the experience of Mystetskyi Arsenal has influenced contemporary approaches to heritage work in Ukraine.
Olena Onohda is a graduate of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, holds a PhD in History, and specializes in the study of Ukrainian late medieval and early modern ceramics. Her professional experience bridges field archaeology, museum practice, and international cultural cooperation, offering a comprehensive perspective on how contemporary approaches to cultural heritage are developed today.
The lecture is part of the "Re: Kryvyi Rih" project, implemented with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
