Kryvyi Rih Cultural Centre / KRCC invites you to the lecture by Svitlana Biedareva: "Epistemologies of Resistance: Ukrainian Art and the Decolonial Turn"!
In her lecture, Svitlana Biedareva will focus on how Ukrainian artists reflect on the experience of colonialism and war through transformations of identity, creating new narratives and visual languages of resistance.
Key questions to be explored:🔸 How can art serve as a tool for decolonization?🔸 How is cultural memory formed in post-totalitarian societies?🔸 Why is it crucial to discuss Ukrainian art in the context of global decolonial studies?
The decolonial turn involves rethinking established historical narratives and breaking away from (post)colonial perspectives. In this context, Ukrainian art emerges as a unique form of visual and intellectual resistance—not only against Russian imperial discourse but also against broader structures of symbolic subjugation. The lecture will examine specific artistic practices that create their own epistemologies—forms of knowledge arising at the intersection of bodily experience, memory, and historical trauma.
